Whether you have guests once a year or once a month, you’ll want to create the kind of guest room for them that will make them feel as comfortable as they would be at home. In order to do this you need to provide a few basic furnishings that every guest room needs to have.

Of course, the first thing you need to think about is the guest room bed. You want your guests to get a good night’s rest, so make sure the size bed you choose will accommodate that. A queen size bed is the best choice for any guest room because it will provide the most room and comfort for both individuals and couples. You can also get two twin beds and keep them apart for younger guests or push them together for couples.

A small nightstand or bedside table next to each side of the bed with table lamps is also essential to any guest room layout. Guests will appreciate having a place to put their alarm clock or glass of water at night and the lamps will be useful for reading in bed. A nightstand with a drawer is nice also so your guests will have a place to keep their small items, such as wallets, keys, glasses, or cell phones.

A chest of drawers or dresser that guests can use to put their clothes in during their stay is very important as well. It’s difficult to relax when your clothes are strewn all over the floor or crumpled up in a suitcase, so make sure to provide a convenient place for guests to keep their clothes organized.

You might also want to provide a comfortable chair or bench so guests can have a place to sit other than on the bed. A small desk is also a nice addition to any guest room for those who want to set up and use their laptops. Providing all the amenities that a basic hotel room would provide will make your guests feel welcome, comfortable, and relaxed during their stay.
